L’invisible
La voie ferrée | The Railway
When I was a child, at the end of the field close to where I lived there were train tracks. At night, before falling asleep, I used to listen to the trains passing at the railway crossing. My mind would transform their sirens into a howl.
I imagined that right there, right where that howl came from, a very tall man stood, holding a hunting rifle in his hands. Next to him was a dog. It was not the man howling, but « it » that was screaming behind him. He was standing on the frontier between the world and the void. If by misfortune someone ventured beyond where the man stood, he was condemned to float in limbo for all eternity. That vision did not horrify me. I was fascinated. I was curious to know what there was beyond the man; in that space that ignorance did not allow me to name. I imagined that the earth was very small. When I closed my eyes, I could feel the tyniness of my body. And I could feel the presence of the dead, gigantic, as they watched over me. Somehow, there was a very erotic feel to all of this... A gigantic hand could take me into its palm and play with me, as it fancied. And I would let myself become the object of desire of some lost soul...

"Laura Albert was a singer who wrote. One day, she felt a sort of breath coming out of her, as if she was inhabited by a spirit. That spirit materialized in front of her and took on human shape. It was a very young man. It looked like a boy. In fact it was not just a boy but a woman as well. He had long hair falling over his shoulders. He was wearing a skirt and high heeled shoes. He lifted his skirt and she could see... No, she could not really see... There was something there, but it was something she did not understand. He looked her in the eyes and said: 'Hi. I am yourself in another shape. I am the boy who inhabits you and from now on I will speak for you. And you, you will travel through me. There is something that I want to express that doesn't concern you. It is a kind of mystery that must come from inside of me. It is a story that makes no sense and it comes from me. And it starts like this..." -
The Invisible
The fall of the Berlin Wall, a consequence of the idea of political transparency, and the recent revelation of a hoax in the American literary scene. Two completely separate anecdotes collide, revealing a conjunction between two worlds: between the living and the dead. In the darkness, specters may materialize: an imaginary child, forgotten in a book, wanders along an American highway, Serge Gainsbourg searches for someone to help him create, a lost soul materializes and inhabits the minds of writers, and a silvery ghost, ruffled by the wind, emits sounds and finds a language for itself.
